The Education for Sustainable Well-Being Research Group is an interdisciplinary research group of the University of Manitoba, housed in the Faculty of Education.
The research programme of the research group consists in the commitment to undertake research that focuses on issues linked to education for sustainable well-being. Research projects as part of this research programme are concerned with education as a means for human and societal development for sustainable well-being.

The main objectives of the Education for Sustainable Well-Being Research Group are:
- To develop and engage in a collaborative interdisciplinary research program on the role and the possibilities that education as a means for human and societal development for sustainable well-being;
- To promote and support undergraduate and graduate education and research in the area of education for sustainable well-being; and
- To enhance the education for sustainable well-being of all humans with a focus on Manitoba and Canada.
These objectives are framed by the following general ideas about “sustainable well-being”:
- Well-being depends on giving consideration to social justice issues and a holistic view of being human.
- Well-being depends on giving consideration to individual and societal well-being.
- Well-being depends on giving consideration to the interrelatedness of human well-being and the well-being of the natural environment including other living beings.
- Sustainable well-being depends on giving consideration to the well-being of current as well as future generations.
- Education for sustainable well-being is inclusive of formal, nonformal, and informal education.
Planned Activities:
- To develop and maintain a group-wide research program to which research projects by the members of the Research Group will contribute;
- To meet regularly throughout the year in working meetings to build a cross-institutional research community;
- To seek out collaborative funding opportunities for research projects by members of the Research Group;
- To organize series of public presentation events, like conferences, colloquia and workshops;
- To find and organize publication opportunities for the research by the Research Group;
- To foster relationships with other research groups and research institutes within the University of Manitoba and research groups with a similar research focus at the national and international level;
- To develop and promote educational and research opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students in the area of education for sustainable well-being;
- To foster relationships and promote partnerships with community members and community groups to ensure that research by the Research Group contributes to education for sustainable well-being of all humans, particularly of Manitobans and Canadians;
- To maintain a website that informs the public about the work and research undertaken by the Research Group.
